Laserod operates a modern laser
facility in Torrance, California, conveniently
located just 20 minutes southeast of Los Angeles
International Airport (see map and
directions).

Our company is dedicated to
providing exceptional service to a variety of industries
including micro-electronics, aerospace, medical, solar
cell, transducer sensor and others. We offer
both services (laser job shop) and products
(custom laser machines) and have experience in excimer &
CO2 lasers -- and YAG lasers, our specialty.
Laserod was formed in 1994 by Rod
Waters, a 30 year veteran of the laser industry. Prior
to Laserod, Rod co-founded with Floyd Pothoven, Florod
Corporation---a laser equipment supplier.
Many of Florod's employees still work
for us. Terry Pothoven, Floyd's son, is one of
Laserod's technical experts. He is our Shop Manager and
has over a quarter century laser experience. Floyd's
other son, David, runs 2nd shift production.
Our laser machines are guaranteed to
produce the same precision results as our laser job
shop. Before you purchase a laser system, we will
demonstrate how the equipment will perform on your
product by producing test samples using your materials
and specifications. Should you then purchase a
system from us, we guarantee that you will be able to
reproduce the results from the sample run.
A map and directions
to our facilities are available online.

Terry Pothoven,
Operations Manager |
Both Rod and Terry obtained physics
degrees from UCLA. Subsequently Rod worked in the Apollo
Moon Program for two years where he helped get us to the
moon a year earlier than expected using newly developed
computer technology. In 1965 he joined Union Carbide's
Korad Lasers headed by Dr. Theodore Maiman, creator of
the world's first laser. At Korad Lasers Rod and
his future business partner, Floyd Pothoven, developed
world class systems for laser trimming, thermonuclear
fusion and welding. We were tops in the world in all
three of these areas. In 1974 Floyd & Rod founded Florod
Lasers where they pioneered, again as world leaders,
laser repair of photomasks (so called Laser Zapper),
failure analysis (Laser Cutter), and flat panel display
repair. Sixty of these LCD repair machines, sold in
Japan, enabled the Japanese to become the world leader
in LCDs. In 1996 Rod and Floyd's son, Terry,
started Laserod, a laser job shop and system
integrator. In their careers Terry and Rod built nearly
a thousand laser systems. Rod continues with Terry's
sons and others from Florod Lasers. Worthy of note is
that Terry was a laser tech at age 14!
